It's Time to Look Ahead ...
Hello, I'm Peter Breen, and I am running for State Representative to serve the people of the 48th District. Thank you for visiting my website.
Illinois machine politicians have consistently let down voters by side-stepping important issues, causing our state to spiral downward. Recovery is not impossible, but it will require serious and deliberate action by the representatives that voters send to Springfield.
A key benefit of my time serving on a municipal board is that we are required to balance our budget. Unlike the State, we cannot push our bills into the next fiscal year. Unlike Washington, we cannot simply print more money when we've spent too much. We are forced to find better ways to use our revenue and make sacrifices when necessary. Our state could benefit from the same kind of fiscal discipline.
The performance of our General Assembly is unacceptable. I know our state has greater potential. We've been blessed with resources and geography that should rank us at the top of the list in every major economic, education and service arena. This is the standard I am committed to.
With your help, we can change the outcome of this state by changing the people who led us into our current situation. I'm willing to put my education, my experience, and my energy into the recovery of Illinois on your behalf. However, I need your time, treasure, and vote to do it.
If you send me to Springfield, I'll welcome your right to hold me accountable every day I serve you.
March 18, 2014 Republican Primary Election
Peter Breen 57% - Winner
Sandra Pihos 43%
Chicago Tribune Endorses Breen
"48th District: Republican state Rep. Sandra Pihos of Glen Ellyn says business costs are too high in Illinois — yet she voted against a work comp bill that has helped to curb those costs. She says public employee pensions have to be fixed — but she voted against the comprehensive pension reform bill that was signed into law. Surprise, surprise, she's received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from public employee unions. You can't count on Pihos to make the tough decisions needed to build a strong Illinois economy. Enough. Attorney Peter Breen of Lombard knows that Republicans have to lead on this. As a Lombard Village Board member, Breen has pushed to keep taxes and spending low. We're confident he would protect taxpayers in Springfield. We have no confidence in Pihos. Breen is endorsed."
